SAME!!! I don't understand why the US wants to punish women. We don't have the supplies for such heavy bleeding. And most of our food is pumped full of more hormones!

I am, thankfully, done with all this. But I used to use two maxis to lengthen the coverage area. I also started using period underwear with protection farther back to help catch overflow back there, both during daytime and especially during the night.

They are like period diaper for overnight.

I did have to go to the ER x2 for heavy periods. The second time I was has having a bout of real heavy periods I let them go too far. I ended up on 6 weeks short term disability. Had low hemoglobin levels, borderline for blood transfusions and mandatory iron transfusions. Ended up with an IUD and it has been manageable since.

This is totally normal in peri.

Rate of absorption is as important here as capacity of absorption. Some pads have a plastic-y outer layer that can slow blood from getting to the absorbent core. Always (my personal brand since teen years) can hold a ton but they aren't the quickest. The inner layer is great, it truly does lock moisture in, but the outer layer not so much. The inner layer is a kind of foam material.

I think you want a pad with a cotton top layer and absorbent core. For that, your best bet might be resuable pads-- a cotton one with a heavy duty inner layer and a waterproof backing.

I use big cloth pads for overnight (Gladrags brand night pads). They're big, and it's nice to have a break from the disposables which can irritate my skin.

Pads with the period undies to catch extra leaks

Who mentioned endo? Obviously there are people this is contraindicated for, but for many women its a godsend. Obviously you have to talk to your doc to see if it's right for you.

DP. I had an ablation and wish I had done it sooner. The flooding and fear of flooding in public (which did happen) created mental health issues for me.

I had flooding for 3 cycles then it changed to every other then settled down. I’ve never had anything less than a heavy flow but it got pretty rough for a patch of time.
