Ughhh this thread is terrible.

When I was 30, maybe I thought "55 equals old" therefore old lady dresses.....

But I'm 47 now, and have lots of friends in the early and mid 50s, and they are generally in great shape (even if a little rounder thanks to menopause), and dress really well. I am laughing to myself even imaging one of them wearing these old lady dresses. Or even worse, one of those shrug jacket things. Come on people, OP said she was a small size and a low weight. Why are you all suggesting she dress like MeeMaw being rolled in in a wheelchair before her 95th birthday? Even my mom at 76 wouldn't wear these horrible suggestions.

The anthro and reformation options are better (and a few of the other ones) but I agree with someone who said they look cheap. As I get older, I do agree that cheap clothes are harder to pull off.

What is horrible? I will tell you:

The cuts are frumpy. The lace on the two with lace looks horribly cheap -- especially the one with the blue. You should pretty much always avoid lower-to-mid-priced jewel tone lace; it is always cheap looking. Likewise with the machine-done embroidery on that thing. I can also guarantee that blue dress is hard to fit, and probably scratchy feeling. Regarding the third one -- black and pink looks terrible on just about everyone, and that print looks cheap, especially in black and pink.

And I did give my suggestions. They are at 18:28 above.

NP. Every single suggestion in 18:28 looks super cheap. Maybe fine for a 20 year old, but not 55.

I really like the first one - although I'd recommend the black. I'm 53 and went to an evening wedding recently. Every woman over 50 was in burgundy. I won't make that mistake again.

You have a lot of time so rather than focus on petite sizing, you should focus on the style you like and get it tailored. What parts do you want to accentuate and what do you want to hide or downplay? What styles typically work best for you?

For the record, I also think most of these suggestions are hideous frump-city and more for a 70 year old.

Also, too many floral suggestions for an evening cocktail reception in D.C.
