We once spent around that much to upgrade to the "junior presidential suite" on a one night vacation. The suite was huge - multiple rooms and balconies, etc. Did we need that much space? No - we were barely in the room as it was a quick trip. But my kids still talk about it so it was worth it to us.

I would spend the $200 if it got another bed so that I could separate my kids. Otherwise, probably not.

But realistically, the $200 will be a distant memory in the whole of the trip so if you want it, do it.

I just go by gut feel. We are fairly practical, so if something won’t bring me value, I don’t feel the need to pay for it simply because it’s “nicer.” On active vacations we don’t pay for fancy hotels. But we do pay for good excursions and activities. On relaxing vacations, I will pay up for a nice resort knowing I want to lay by the pool or beach with a drink.

We don’t upgrade the type of seats/cabin on flights but I do pay up for nonstops and better flight times whenever it makes sense. (I wouldn’t pay double or anything, but a little more, sure.)

We travel a lot, and the size and "luxury" of suites can be very subjective. I would literally confirm the room sq footage, number of actual beds/separate bedrooms and location in the hotel/resort. We once did this and the luxury suite was not much bigger than the 2 queen, and the appeal of the 1 separate bedroom was lost since our kids had to share a pull out sofa in the living area - which turned out to be cramped and uncomfortable... leading to a lot of complaining for days since we were there three nights. The last night we actually paid $75 for a rollaway.
