If the roof has overhangs the best place for them to vent is the soffit, the horizontal space on the bottom of the overhang. If there aren't soffit's available then a wall is the next choice.
Through the roof is fine if properly done. Ours are through the roof.

Anonymous wrote:Today's code is that they have to vent outside; pretty much everything built before the mid 80's will have it vented into the attic (which was to code then). Honestly it probably not worth the effort to deal with until you do a reno.
