I see nothing ethically wrong with skilled trades people upcharging wealthy people who disdain tradesmen, but are too important to learn the skills themselves.

Hmm. I saw 2 teens and a mom and dad doing several houses where elderly live. I got the impression it was a good deed type thing because they just went driveway to driveway without talking to anyone at the door.

You should give them at least 30% tip too. Then referring them to everyone in your neighborhood.

Tipping is out of control don't do that

I am sick of people like you. If you don't want to tip then don't, but it is none of your business if I want to tip generously for a service I contract for, go be cheap.

We make seven figures and I think you’re nuts.

We are in our 70s and both have bad backs. I shoveled for 35 years here. Last time I was in pain for a week even though I use good form with shoveling.
Landscaper is ripoff but they show up. Car, walkways, stairs, everything safe for us to use. I figure it's cheaper than medical bills from falling or shoveling,
There are no neighborhood kids out shoveling or looking for work.
Happy to be nuts.

I don’t know what they are doing this year in my middle class neighborhood, but last year my kid spent the night at his cousin’s in a more UMC neighborhood and they told people “pay whatever you want!” And said that people paid amounts that they thought would have been rude to ask for.

This year they are out offering to start your walk now, and come back to finish tomorrow, all for one low price. I don’t know if they are telling people the low price or letting them pick.

I hope your property is huge, because otherwise you're vastly overpaying.

My teens charge for $25 for a single driveway, $40 for a double wide (we live in a townhouse community) and an extra $10 to do the steps. They aren't fast but they are thorough and love having a little extra money.

Yep. My lazy millennial neighbors, admittedly with young kids but undeniably lazy AF, drive up the cost of services. Which they can all afford because mummy and popsie paid for their undergrad, grad school and down payment. Oh and a Lexus in one case.

I'd have money for 3x/day doorDash too if I had their Boomer parents as benefactors!

They are driving DOWN the cost of services. If they pay more, a provider can afford to charge other people less and still make the day worth the trip into town.

$700 for snow removal at your house? We are paying less than that to have our landscapers do the snow at the apartments we own.
