Have had some crappy NYs Eves and a lot of mediocre ones but also some great ones. Running through the streets of Paris yelling "Bon Annee" because we couldn't get a taxi home. Walked for hour but it was one giant party. Dancing on the beach in Costa Rica. Some random parties which were actually fun. Now, we tend to stay home - for the last few year - my teens have had small gatherings so mainly we are here as shadow chaperones. The trick to NY's and most of life -is don't force it. If it works out - great. Keep your eyes open for fun things to do but if you would rather stay home and go to bed early do that. Get up and have a great NYs Day run.

My favorite NYEs are those spent with friends at house parties with a copious amount of food (pot luck style) and playing poker. It stopped for a number of years b/c of young kids and then covid. But picked up again once the kids are old enough to play together unsupervised.

I'm sure people are jealous of my Insta post from last night from a party which looked very glam.

Truth of it is that the friends we were with? An embarrassment all night. They cut in line at the buffet enraging about 10 people behind them and when DH mentioned it the guy said "You were holding our place in line." Not how it works. Then the same guy bumped into a lady on the dance floor and instead of letting it go he turned around and tapped her on the shoulder to apologize and was holding her shoulder tightly the whole time. Probably not even aware he was doing it. Her Dh got pissed off and said "It's fine, it's fine" in an annoyed voice and waved him off aggressively. The dj had a great world-music vibe going and he kept going up to him on the stage demanding "YMCA." Then when the check came he pulled over multiple staff members to check to see if the 20% service charge was a tip because he didn't want to add anymore. He also insulted me multiple times -- without even knowing it -- with awkward stuff he said.

It was a trial and a tribulation. But the fancy rooms, the pretty falling confetti, the bubbly, the pretty NYE desserts, my perfect dress and the new jewelry DH got me for Christmas, etc, etc, etc, looked good in the reel. Don't believe SM, lol.

Ugh, sorry to write a novel. Had to get that off my chest and this post called for it.

I don’t think we’ve been up at midnight since our children were born and now they are in their 20s. The last few years we’ve had an early evening casual dinner party but it’s usually over by nine or so. After clean up NYE sex ends the evening and the year on a high note.

Since being little, my favorite has always been staying home eating seafood and watching tv all cozy on the couch with family. The few times we tried to "do something", I've regretted it. This is always perfect. Dcs weren't home this year so dh and I did it alone and it was great.

Depends on what great is for you. I was happy with what our family did: had takeout we all enjoyed for dinner, went to see the lights at Brookside Garden, made a dessert with one kid and watched TV with the other, and then all watched the ball drop and went to bed. I would have also been happy to go to bed earlier but feel bad going to bed when kids are still up.
