This is why I schedule an Uber on the way there but take a taxi on the way home. You can walk right out of DCA to the cab line and there are a ton waiting. I live in Arlington though so can feel pretty confident a cab ride home will be close to the cost of an Uber anyway.

Always. He drops us at the terminal, parks the car and then takes the parking shuttle to the terminal to join us. He does the reverse on the way home.

I think this is different for each person. For us, long term parking at IAD is $14/day. For a 10 day trip that’s $140. Round trip taxi is total of $90. Not only do we save $50, we also save hassle of getting on and off the parking shuttle. The time it takes us to shuttle to lot we’re halfway home. Plus I like keeping our car at home, especially if weather is an issue.

We always drive to the airport. I loathe Ubering.

But we have a nice, comfortable car and my husband typically drives. He also typically drops the kids and I at the terminal and picks us up. So I never actually see the parking lot or the parking shuttle.

At the airport? How do you know what sort of delays you’ll encounter? It’s not feasible at the airport to order a ride in advance. I’d feel like I was adding to my frustration if, say, we sat on the taxiway waiting for a gate to open, and I knew I had to rush to my soon-to-be-arriving Uber. Just no. Okay it’s been a long time, admittedly, but don’t they still have a cab stand at the airport? I get taking an uber to the airport but why not a cab back.

They cost more and you still have to deal with someone else’s driving and conversation.

You don't have a smart phone and have an "important email" to return?

I’ve never not have one show up. I fly crack of dawn early several times a month and never had a problem.

I wouldn’t but I don’t mind Ubers. We book one as we’re walking off the plane and it’s there when we get to pickup. We’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes. We also live 15 min max from the airport so a $20-30 Uber. Parking would be really expensive.

Only you can determine if it’s worth it.

If you don't like Ubers, then park. I don't like Ubers and feel it's worth it to park. I have plenty of friends and family in the area, but I don't feel entitled to their time. Occasionally some volunteer, but I don't mind paying to park.
