If you lost a lot of weight quickly, people often think you are unwell. I am not saying you actually look unwell, I think our brains just have trouble adjusting. When someone loses weight slowly, our brains adjust to them getting smaller.

Also, as others have said, it has always been acceptable to insult, mock, and taunt skinny or in-shape people, especially if they always follow a strict diet. I have been both thin and fat. Being thin makes meeting new people easier, as people tend to associate good traits with thin folks. But it makes social interactions either folks you see on a regular basis more difficult, as you are a constant target. No one likes to realize that a lot of people are only thin because they are careful about what they eat and exercise.

People that go from obese to thin in a short time generally DO look unwell. I ran into someone I hadn't seen in in about 1-2 yrs and she had lost at least 100 lbs (GB surgery). I had no idea and didn’t even recognized her. The first thought that ran through my mind was she has a terminal illness. I didn’t say anything at all other than a general “oh hi, good to run into you” bc I was so dumbfounded: I didn’t want to say she looked great (bc I was afraid she might not be well), and I didn’t want her to think that I didn’t think she looked great before, then there was the whole bit about not even recognizing her…it was all together awkward.

As a fat person, I agree with this. I have a very tall female friend and everyone remarks on her height in a way that would make me cringe if they had said it to me about my weight. Society has schooled us on not being rude to fat people. But apparently the lesson doesn't carry to other traits. Like being thin or tall or whatever. Just stop talking about people's physical appearances this way.

ITA. My dd is very short and the comments never end. It is seriously so rude and yet a surprisingly large amount of people enjoy making comments.
