Our private sends a few kids to Chicago and not even one is in the top 20%. And kids aiming for HYPMS are not applying to Chicago ED2 at our school. The 99% in top 10% comes from schools that rank and most private high schools don't rank, so they can come up with that statistic based only on schools that rank.

The general consensus in this forum seems to be that if UChicago deferred and the student doesn’t choose ED2 then the chances in RD are close to zero. If that’s true then UChicago is playing a sneaky game and soon students will stop applying to EA there.
What if a student is considering ED2 or RD only (was deferred from HYP+). The financial committment without knwing packages at other places scares me, but if they have no chance at RD...
Chicago is notorious for hiding its ED numbers and not disclosing them in its CDS, but estimates are that it fills 65-70% of class ED. That makes the RD acceptance rate miniscule. Better RD chances at a host of other top schools. The point is, be OK with RD options that are not UChicago…or even consider an ED2 elsewhere.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:So if a kid who got deferred chooses to go with RD and not ED2, are the chances pretty much zero? Know of anyone who got in thru RD after getting deferred in EA?
That’s about right. UChicago ED2 is already pretty tough because a bunch of kids who applied to HYPMS in the first round end up applying.
