OK so QB does allow for extenuating circumstances and it is the colleges who check finances, not QB. I guess sometimes we don’t know what all is going on behind closed doors but I have seen a lot of moms say their kids have got QB even though they were not LI.

B. No — if you become a QB Finalist, and rank colleges, you go through the National College Match and it’s the colleges who check your finances. If you become a Finalist and do not rank colleges, you get ti put down “QB Finalist” as an Honor on your Common App. QB should really be screening these kids better, as should CBOs.

QB and CBO’s are doing something good, but there’s always the cheaters who will find ways to exploit all this.

I signed up to volunteer because I feel strongly about supporting FGLI kids, but the system is broken.

Is it possible that your daughter is just too boring and basic and has no redeeming qualities to shore up her test scores and grades? It's not just about scores and grades, OP. You child has to have something to offer a school and being cute and smart is not enough. Sorrynotsorry.

I volunteer at a CBO for FGLI kids. One of my students parents has 2 businesses (to do with flipping houses and materials for those). Parents found tax loopholes to keep their AGI low — and they could get a free college advisor. After numerous talks with her about how she was not really LI, she and her parents decided WE should focus on getting her to Finalist Status so she could put that as an Honor on her RD apps! As if they were paying me!!! LOL. I made a schedule for her essays and she wanted them done before school started — I think they thought I would be writing them for her! I said if you can get it done before school starts, I’ll provide feedback ASAP. The entitlement kept showing — she asked me to shorten her QB essays on the due date. I ignored her request of course — so she did not submit!

Seriously, QB students take up a small percentage of students on campus especially compared to athletes and legacies.

They are some of the hardest working and most grateful students I know with few resources.

OP, in 2024 there were only 2,647 Questbridge matches total nationwide Do your homework next time before posting such exaggerations!

+1. This is what really gets me. Otherwise, it's a great program and opportunity. DCUM should be happy since it benefits many Asian-American students.

The number of QB kids I see applying from families which own restaurants, but "pay" relatives 30K to look low income comes to mind.

No it's rich white teens whose parents buy expensive homes in the best school districts and have resources to get them infinite tutors, consultants and to do infinite activities that are taking your spots.

There's no meritocracy anywmore. It's all pay to play. QB is such a small act of charity amidst a sea of Marie Antoinette style "let them eat cake" inequality. You're getting mad at the wrong group.
