GPA standard varies from school to school. 3.75 is top 10% in one school vs top 50% in another.

One school may send 50% to top20 colleges vs another school only sends 10%.

You just can't determine acceptance in the abstract.

Your college counselor is giving you very poor advice. Schools with admit rates of under 15% are not safeties. Full stop. Following that guidance may lead to disappointing results.

Colgate has taken every single applicant 3.4'and above from the school for 3 years.

It's ok. my kid has other safeties-we are passing on Colgate. (Do not want to spend $90k)

Don't overlook how impactful really strong essays and ECs can be. You'll get a skewed idea on here of "3.75 isn't a good GPA"...when in fact, it IS good- and you never know what the AOs are looking for while they're building their next class. Remember that there are public (and less competitive private) schools out there absolutely inflating GPAs, so they will look at your student within the context of their HS. I say go for it. Consider the application fee a lottery ticket- someone is going to win, might as well shoot your shot!

Yes of course. It's good enough from even a public. Ask me how I know.

Yes to this. Bowdoin takes from the top 25% or so from our top private, Williams and ivies take from the top 10-15%(need ED if outside 10%).
Unweighted GPA is 3.8 for top25%, 3.9 for around top15%
