Yes, I also prefer places that are free of rules and regulations. You know, the types of places where builders don't have any stupid building codes to make sure they build houses that are habitable, the types of places where there aren't these pesky things called "crimes," the types of places where brown water can come out of the tap due to lack of environmental laws. It's really wonderful to not have rules and regulations.


We live near Glenmont in an older neighborhood which we expressly picked because of large lots and no HOA. It's been nice and is technically part of "silver spring."

The part of SS I know best is the neighborhoods just north of the beltway but south of University Blvd. So, McKenney Hills/Carroll Knolls to the west and Forest Estates, etc. to the east. These are full of well-kept modest mid-century brick homes with young families who are friendly and involved in the schools. The neighborhoods have easy access to parks, trails, retail, and the metro. It’s a lovely place to live.

Lots of misinformation from people who don't actually live in Silver Spring. As some have said, it's very large. The downtown area is very different from the neighborhoods. And there are a variety of neighborhoods.

We love our neighborhood in Silver Spring 20910 (Capitol View Park). It's friendly with lots of community events and feels safe. Kids play outside, we can walk to parks, etc.

We love our inside the beltway SS neighborhood. Kids play outside. Parks full of parents and kids. School demographics are balanced and there is not a dominant ethnic group. Lot’s of extracurricular activities close by. I don’t feel unsafe and we spend a lot of time in the down town area. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the region.

Certain areas of Silver spring can save you money while still having decent access to DC. Use the lower costs to send kids to privates.

No. It’s majority Latino.


Parts of SS are majority Latino, just as parts of Arlington, Falls Church, and DC are.

We are in the northern part of Silver Spring very close to Burtonsville. We love it where we are. We have great neighbors, awesome indoor swim facilities ( technically in Laurel but 10 mins from our house) parks, hiking trails.
We go to downtown silver spring area to ice skate during the day or watch a movie at the Ellsworth Regal.
