If child does well on cogat and is identified as “gifted” is there nothing available to them in their assigned school? When my sister and I were identified gifted in the dark ages of the 80s and 90s we were pulled out of class regularly to be with other gifted kids to do random extra enrichment activities. We also had IEPs. But again this was the Midwest 30 years ago. Is the only option for enrichment for talented kids to go to a few specific schools with dedicated programs?
This gifted designation doesn’t itself bring anything. But in theory schools are supposed to offer enrichment to those who need it. In my experience this doesn’t happen until 4th, when kids are identified for accelerated math or ELA and can be placed in to separate classes for these.
