Thanks! Yes, the rest are no-audition arts admits. Of her (now) seven applications in, only two were audition for arts admission. She has two auditions for merit, and three that consider arts supplements but don’t require auditions for arts admission.

I'd want to know more about why the safety fell through, because that might make me more cautious and likely to call something a target rather than a safety.
The safety fell through because she wasn’t accepted to the very selective arts program. I’m confident she’ll get into the university - probably with merit - but she won’t go if she can’t pursue her art in a serious way. She learned at the audition that there are no options for non majors and that wasn’t clear before. So in the end, it wasn’t a safety at all. JMU has accepted her artistically pending university admission.
All the others schools she’s applied to have artistic opportunities for non majors, or non audition majors/minors, so I’m not worried about that. Paying for them is another story, and we’re chasing merit, but that’s the case everywhere but UMD.

Well in fairness, she hasn't been accepted to the university yet, only the arts program. Naviance, CollegeVine, and CDS shows JMU as a safety, but I'm not counting on anything until she has an acceptance in hand.

OP, I wouldn’t worry about submitting many more. Maybe one or two just for peace of mind. The kids submitting 20 apps are not as focused as your kid. They’re chasing prestige or merit (or both) and playing the odds. The shotgun approach won’t serve your kid, who knows what she wants and probably has fewer options that meet all her criteria. Her academic safeties are both auditions-based and artistically selective. But fortunately she’s been artistically accepted to one of them (JMU) and she’ll know about the other safety in two weeks.
Her remaining schools audition for talent scholarships, not acceptance to the major.
She’s burned out because for all of these arts programs, it’s a three-part process involving acceptance to the school, admission to the program, and application for honors and/or a talent scholarship. Each stage requires something new of her.
I think giving her time to rest is a great idea, as much as I’d prefer for her to bang them out and be done, that feels inhumane right now.
The extra honors work is no joke. My kid submitted several and has one more pending for VT.
Sounds like she is doing well and earned a reprieve!
