Same. Too much uncertainty.

Part of me is like we shouldn’t travel because the economy will crash and part of me is like things will only get worse and this might be our last chance for a very, very long time.

I feel this way too. I haven't booked any tickets yet because I'm so conflicted.

Brazil now requires visas for Americans.

Brazil used to require a visa when I went, they changed it around 2008 and are now changing it again, so I don't know if that's connected.

But I think any overseas travel I make will be limited to the UK this summer or not at all. I'm not even a Democrat and I just have an uneasy feeling about what's to come. I'll feel better sticking close to home.

As a fed, I paused any 2025 travel plans after the election.

Agree. Invading and occupying countries half way across the world (Iraq, Afghanistan) did not make us popular. Not to mention our blind support for Israel.

I realize the US has been unpopular before but this is a whole different level of craziness and disruption.

They were mad at us because of our policies but our policies did not impact most of them. Trump is waging trade wars with Mexico, Canada, and possibly the EU. He’s talking about taking Greenland. He’s stopping foreign aid, which will impact many countries. I just hope people abroad can separate the current government from the American people. Go read a non-American newspaper. The world is aghast at what’s happening in the US.

Think about this in the reverse. I hate Russia's policies. I would never, ever be rude to a Russian person because of it much less injure them. You'll be fine.

The difference here is that Trump’s tariffs and the ensuing collapse of the dollar will probably lead us to the brink of WWIII. Someone might do something and save the day, but we’re about to put the world under the control of Putin and Xi or turn it into radioactive glass. If civilization survives, we’re about to have roughly the national prestige of Germany in 1947.

Most people overseas will probably be polite to polite Americans most of the time, but there will be a lot of awkwardness. Trump, Putin and Xi are causing countries all around the world to roll down the iron shutters of isolationism, and international travel may never return to being an easy thing in our lifetimes.
