It might work for a rec league, but probably not club. Clubs and teams are formed to meet different needs for different kinds of players. Different skill levels, different aspirations, different price levels, different amount of travel, different levels of expectations, amount of practices, etc. Additionally, families have different comfort levels with how far they are willing to drive for practice.

While I recognize the current system has flaws, an interesting thing is that different regions set their own rules for tryouts from what I’ve heard about some other regions, CHRVA seems pretty reasonable
