Yes abortion is an issue but that's not about Trump -- it's about Congress and they've been using DC as a political football in abortion and crime debates for years. Dobbs of course makes that worse but Dobbs is done -- of course DC is not immune to it's consequences and the stupid situation by which Congress still has an outsized say in local politics was always going to be an issue with a Republican Congress. This sucks but is not uniquely different than how it has been with prior Republican takeovers.

The threats about schools are dumb and reflect conservative fantasies about what public schools in "blue" cities are like. Trump can ban critical race theory in DCPS and this will have exactly zero impact on my child's educational experience because CRT is not actually a central aspect of her education -- she is learning phonics and New Math. And actually DCPS tends to be slightly more socially conservative than charters because DCPS has olderm, longer-tenured teachers who are often personally religious -- where charters in DC will more vocally support gay rights or trans issues, most DCPS schools stay far away from those issues (and it's not just teachers and administrators -- a signficant percent of DCPS families have more conservative views on these issues because the black community tends to be more religious and less progressive on these issues). I guess maybe charters should be worried? But DC generally just uses Common Core curriculum which has nothing to do with any of Trump's pet issues. This is a non-issue that actually reveals the ways that DC itself is not a conservative's fever dream of a progressive city. The reality is very different from what they imagine.

Personally I'd be fine with the feds pushing for stricter crime enforcement and increased prosecution of crime. And so would a lot of the city's citizens including the vast majority of us who voted happily for Harris. Crime in DC sucks and the unique set up of the government gives citizens very little power to push for change. I wouldn't cry if Republicans found a way to make the city tougher on crime and neither would most of my neighbors in NE DC. There are activist groups who would freak out but that's precisely why I'd be fine with a GOP Congress and administration taking the heat from them. Those groups are well-intentioned but counterproductive and progressive politicians won't stand up to them for fear of being cancelled. It's put us in a terrible position with regards to criminal enforcement and I'd embrace a shake up of the status quo. I'm a lifelong Dem and I'm exhausted by the mealy-mouthed platitudes and inaction from DC politicians who think combatting violent crime is inherently racist. Grow up.

Anyway there are a lot of things about a Trump presidency that concern me but this isn't one of them. Folks in DC need to stop trying to make this about themselves. DC will be fine.

DC and MOCO will be rendered into a slum outside of a few places next to the mall/capital hill.

I am quite worried about my job, but what you are describing is way easier said than done - just because of real estate practicalities, never mind laws and requirements for moving agencies. Where are all these agencies going to be located in congested NoVA? Or are they moving to red counties, in which case you need to build out the space from scratch? And, wouldn't this exercise be pointless since his loyalists can live and vote in VA even if they commute to DC?

Also, he cannot make DC and MOCO a slum. Among other reasons - Federal employees are not a major economic engine, as we've seen in the countless failed attempts to revitalize sketchy parts of DC by moving an agency there. Lobbyists etc. will still be in DC and they are the ones spending money at nice retail/restaurant developments and nice housing, which is what actually revitalizes areas.

Lots to worry about, but this is not on the list.

ATF was moved to NoMa and now that is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in DC.
3 agencies were moved to Navy Yard area and now that is a very trendy area.

What agencies were moved to a sketchy area that remained sketchy? (and st eliabeths west doesn't count since it is a completely walled off installation that provides no external facing public amenities)

The area around Suitland Federal Center remains sketchy

Over 90 percent of the federal workfoce is already outside of the District. Moving the agencies across the river doesn't really do anything. A more likely scenario is disbanding Home Rule and the reinstallation of a federal panel to 'manage" the city. Along with it, a provision to exempt DC residents from federal taxes, thus turning it into a tax haven. Senator Kemp tried this decades ago.
