Lame excuse. This was Trump's campaign. The buck stops with him. He is responsible. To make excuses like that shows gross incompetence. And if he can't manage his campaign team, he is not fit to lead the country.

He knows what the comedian said. His response is 'I didn't know the guy, I didn't hear him' and so on. Never once has he said that what the comedian said was reprehensible. It's not like anyone is making up what that idiot said. Why is it so hard for him to just come out and say that he doesn't believe that?

Oh he didn't need to be. He and his campaign approved the comedian's speech before it was uploaded to the teleprompter. They took out a "c-word" reference to Harris as too much. But no one thought the Puerto Rican joke was bad until the reaction it got (or the joke about black people loving watermelon or the joke about Latino immigrants making so many babies by "not pulling out" just like what they do to the US).

I read it as he's the garbage guy, taking out the trash. The trash being Puerto Ricans or whoever is on the other side.

The meaning of the stunt was clear if you knew about Biden calling Trump supporters garbage.

I knew about Biden calling the comedian garbage (which was clarified later). I also know that Trump has called Harris and her supporters 'Absolute Garbage', in addition to the comedian at his MSG rally just on Monday calling Puerto Rico a garbage pile, which Trump has NOT disavowed. So you may think this refers to what Biden said, but I think that my interpretation makes more sense.
