Which God are you referring to? Because there are approximately 4k recognized religions globally and I guarantee they don’t all teach this marriage is between a man and woman thing. It’s frankly narcissistic to me when someone pushes their religion as the “right one” and all the 3,999 religions are the wrong one. It is their special, chosen God who makes the rules for humanity. 🙄

The reality is marriage is a legal concept. A man and a woman in a relationship are not married just because they are a man and a woman. They are married specifically because they got a piece of paper from the court declaring them married.

If you want to teach well in X religion the God we believe in thinks only men and women should marry then go ahead and teach your kid to be a backwater bigot. But you’re factually wrong that marriage was created by God when it is a legal designation made by Governments. The IRS has more involvement with what a marriage is than your 1 out 4,000 chance you picked (or were conveniently born into) worshipping the “correct” God.

Agree this isn’t really “taught” in school. Also no one teaches kids about what a heterosexual relationship is either. They pick it up from context or regular life discussions with parents.

By 3/4 years old my kids had asked me all sorts of things about getting married, having babies, etc. We talked about all sorts of things, even how some people decide not to get married or have kids. Everyone gets to make their own choices. Just like we decided to be a family with a cat some other families decide to have a dog. Some families want to live in an apartment some in a house. Etc. And emphasize how all choices are great in their own way.

I learned what "gay" meant when I was 9 and it was mentioned on the show Frasier.
There are no same-sex parents at my kids' school. Maybe that is more common in your area.
One of my sons asked if it was true that two boys or two girls could get married and I said that it was legal, yes. He then asked how they could possibly make a baby and I explained that they would need a third person. That was pretty much it...he was 7 I think.
He does know some kids whose fathers are absent and he asked how the mother made a baby without a sperm. I explained that the kids do have fathers but they don't live with their kids and that seemed to REALLY blow his mind.

Kids are funny, sometimes they know families with same sex relationships but still don’t make the connection to the abstract concept.
My kid came home from school at 4 exclaiming that he learned that two boys can marry each other. We gently reminded him that best friend has two dads and we see them all the time.

If your kid is school aged and doesn't know about this, you missed the boat. I think my kids were 2 when they knew families were all different and could include two moms or dads. Both kids have multiple friends with parents in same sex marriages. They don't bat an eye.

From birth? My husband’s best friend since elementary school is a man who is married to another man. My kids have always known they are married.

When did you teach your kids about same sex cousins?
