DS went to his target. He removed himself from the waitlists, so I don't know if he would have gotten in.

10 applications submitted- one ED and the rest EA or just early.

Accepted to 3. Then accepted ED and withdrew all other apps without knowing the decision. That is one cost of ED- the student doesn’t know about other decisions but the benefit of getting into the dream school far outweighs that. Of course we know many kids who got into ED and didn’t withdraw so they could see where else they got in. That is awful behavior.

Why did you give details on the types of schools for all categories except the 4 rejections?

#1: 6 applications. Not sure exactly how they break down, but I’d guess 3 reaches/3 targets; got into 5, 1 rejection. She didn’t apply to her safety because she got into her top choices before the safety’s deadline.

#2: 4 applications. 1 reach, 1 borderline reach/target, 1 true target, 1 safety. Admitted to 3, 1 waitlist (reach school) and declined to stay on.

#3: 2 applications, both targets, got into both. [long story but she didn’t end up going to either and opted for the community college + transfer route so will actually end up graduating from a school that would not have admitted her in hs]

It’s about what we expected, except the rejection from the likely was a surprise. That was their #1 school and was a painful rejection.

Kid 1 - 4 apps - 1 reach, 1 target, 2 safeties. Admitted to all but the reach.

Kid 2 - 6 apps - 1 reach, 5 safeties or targets, not sure exactly the breakout. For into all but the reach.

2024 - 5 EA or rolling applications, all targets

I guess DS could’ve shot higher, but his stats were below the average at his reaches.

He had 3-4 more that he would've submitted in December, but once he got accepted to his top choice in December, he decided not to submit the others.

not perfect SAT but good enough (within the 50th%iles of these schools); yes Rank #1 in the high school. Recommendation letters were pretty good and the kid is a really good writer. Very well rounded and not particularly super high performing in one area and has not specialized (like I could see why MIT was a rejection). Very curious and just loves to learn.

PP here. Forgot to add that we are neither full pay nor on full scholarship. Some aid and also Asian-American.
