No one is even talking about Union - this thread is about a coach at VDA. My kid has had CW for years - he’s super nice, maybe too nice and parents complain that he is not actually hard enough on the teams he coaches.

What kind of coach thinks he is being clever by using teammates to call out teammates in team meetings ? CW is almost a caricature of negative, passive aggressive coach.

Yelled at 8-10 year old girls after losing their WAGS tournament final in a razor thin close game. He’s going to be in for a rude awakening at the end of the season when half the team leaves (and numbers are already thin). My advice to you is to take your dollars to another club and let the upper management know why you left. Hurting their pocketbook is the best revenge.
Ah yes, I unfortunately know exactly who you're talking about. He's the worst and no better with his other young team. Lovely man. So motivational and uplifting. Only made three girls cry on the drive home from a blow out preseason game because he did nothing all game but scream at a few kids and afterward told the girls they basically sucked and better start trying. Complaining in writing and with numbers is my best advice.
I am interested in knowing which club this is along with the others. My DD is doing well at rec and ready for the challenge of travel, but hearing this about coaches is scary. Our rec coaches have all been so nice. Hearing this is quite a turn off. Are a lot of travel coaches this way even at the young ages?
That is the biggest chance between rec and travel. On the plus side, coaches actually coach and arent just enthusiastic parents. But that also means they arent there to make your kid feel good.
My son has only played for 2 coaches and both are good, not toxic, not coaches i would complain about. But their style is so so so different than rec. They are tough. They make you run laps if you arent good enough at a drill. They push and challenge. I was a bit shocked because my son was 9 when he started travel and it seemed so off putting to make him perform in this environment. But he has become a more skilled player and enjoys the challenge.
I personally miss the lovely mom that was his rec coach who had a constant stream of encouragement throughout all practices!

This is OP, this is not about VDA. And also not union. But it is another large club in the area. Sorry I’m not willing to blow up my daughter’s spot by saying on this message board who it is since I’ve already given the age and that the coach is male, but I have contacted other parents with similar concerns and are brainstorming on next steps.

These guys probably don't make a lot of money in their day jobs, so they need the extra income. They probably have some built up resentment against "rich kids" that do travel.
My kid hasn’t had a single coach who hasn’t played travel soccer themselves! Young guys who have no idea how to deal with teenage female student athletes.
