To me, I’m here to be the best version of me that I can be, live life to its fullest (as I see it), and try to leave the world a little better, whether through relationships or work. So one part selfish self actualization and one part altruism.

It has crossed my mind many times that maybe I already died and this is hell.

Love of God & love of neighbor. This is actually quite difficult and I think requires a lifetime of learning, unlearning, and growth. I know I certainly haven’t achieved this. But the goal is meaningful. In the midst of all the chaos, striving, greed, inhumanity, I think this is the only meaningful goal.

Well said. Some of the other posts are startling.

It’s all about family. Without my husband, children and grandchildren there would be a lot less meaning. Yes, you can make a life but I love what I have.

To be in relationship with our maker, each other, and the world we live in.

Aristotle’s virtue ethics resonates with me - living a good virtuous life takes a long time (life time) of consistently living in a balanced way -avoiding extremes while cultivating virtues such as playing a musical instrument, maintaining loving healthy relationships or learning new languages.

Modern philosophers often adapt some version of virtue ethics with utilitarianism or Consequentialist ethics (Focuses on the consequences of an action and seeking maximum good for maximum number of people) and Deontological ethics: (Focuses on the duties or moral obligations of an agent).

Life is complicated and I don’t think meanings can be reduced to snappy sound bites. Also I think deep meanings are an ontological form of knowledge that need to be experienced deeply and consistently.
