Next he will hit you and are you going to ask if hitting is common. Verbal abuse is s only a baby step from physical abuse. I suggest that you tell him he needs anger management counseling and that you will no longer tolerate his yelling at you or children or dog!

PP again. To clarify, I wouldn't cry when I got older, but it still upset me. The one positive thing about having a father that yelled is that you push back if any other man tries to do that to you when you are an adult.

No, he never yells at me or the kids. I had a father that yelled sometimes in frustration. It would made me cry until I was in middle school but was upsetting nonetheless. I always thought I wouldn't tolerate that in my house when I had my own family.

No? But he raises his voice and shouts when we are in a bad fight. But if at any point I de-escalate or just walk away he would not continue shouting.

My wife yells at me often and has little self-awareness when she takes an ugly/nasty tone with me or puts me down in front of our children. Then if I raise my voice in response, she screams don't yell at me! and gets extremely angry as I am the only one who is out of line.

OoooOoooh I wish he would, he would get it right back. lol No, never...welll except once out of desperation after arguing for hours when we were younger.
Also, I'm the wife and I've definitely blown my lid a few times. We have been married 20 years.
