I had mine inserted in May of 2013...my period was irregular at first, lots of severe cramping that I never had...it's now December 2013, and I'm looking in to having it removed. I still get my period...although it is lighter, I have it for longer (it went from 5 days to 8 days) and now I have severe cramping and period symptoms I never had while I was on the pill. Insertion was painful for me, I've never had kids, and didn't realize I should have had driver on the way home. I figure I would give it until March or April, and if I still do not see any improvement, have it removed and switch back to the pill.

I have had it for three weeks now and barely stopped spotting. The pain has been really really bad that I have still had sex there's just been bleeding and discomfort and I just want to wait it out I'm really excited about it but it really does hurt. I am willing to wait it out though

I had Mirena inserted on Wednesday, October 30. I'm 27 and married with no children. I had been on some form of the Pill since I was 13 for heavy bleeding. The procedure itself didn't last very long, maybe 5 minutes longer than my normal pap smear. I only felt two extremely sharp cramps that lasted for about a minute each. Other than that, I felt fine once the doctor was done. I had mine placed during my monthly. The rest of the day, I had horrible cramps which went all the way down into my kneecaps. Ibuprofen wouldn't relieve them and neither would my heating pad. I also bled pretty heavily, not enough to soak an overnight pad but where I had all of this blood pooling down there. Two days later, I'm still cramping, but not as badly and it's manageable with ibuprofen. I'm still bleeding, but not as bad as the day it was placed and am able to change out a regular sized OB tampon three times a day. I'm hoping that Mirena is the right choice for me as I hate taking a pill everyday and am tired of all the crazy side effects.

I have had the mirena almost two years now and have had serve leg ramps everyday like I'm in labor.
The pain does not even go away with Lortab 10. I called the doctor and she seems not to be to worried about but she's not the one in pain. Can other doctors remove the iud?

Was just going to try mirena and now worried reading all of thus....

I have had an IUD for about a year now. One day I got intense cramping that would go and come for a few weeks after having it in for about 8 months. Turns out IUDs can cause OVARIAN CYSTS. Its a pretty common problem. My Dr. could feel mine in my pelvis. Luckily, mine just "popped" after a month or two so there was heavy bleeding for a few days but no surgery or meds were needed.

Got mine just over two weeks ago. Incredible how painless it was after insertion. Have just started experiencing light bleeding over the past few days. I have cramping but it comes in spurts - very painful for a few minutes and then it goes away. Has anyone found this with the cramping? I am hopeful for this since I cannot use a BC with estrogen.

I had mine in for almost a month. I feel nothing. It's the best birth control I've ever been on. I have fibroids with incredibly painful periods. So far so good. I go for my followup appt next week.

I had my iud put in yesterday. I am 19 with no children. The dr decided the iud was a better option because I get cyst that rupture and I suffer from horrible migraines. I am in awful pain. I cannot stop throwing up, and the cramps are surreal. I'm starting to think my uterus is too small for this. I have read that the "strings" can poke penis's. Is this true? If I call my OBGYN will she give me pain meds? Can I use tampons? How long should I wait to have sex?

Ive had my mirena for 2 months normally I cramp for a week or so as of today im cramping but the strange thing is it only happens at night. Huh.. other than cramps im happy to have it. Ive been married 4 yrs and I am 28 yrs. oldnot ready for kids, this is the safest birth control ive found...I think its worth it.

Iv had my mirena for 3 years, got it inserted when I was 18 and I am now 21. I like it but I also hate it. Many people stop getting their period I still get my religiously every month, I have to say it is much lighter than it's ever been. Mirena also helps with heavy flow. I use to get my period for almost 2 weeks and now it's just a few days! I do get pretty intense cramping still some months are worst than others. I also formed a small ovarian cyst that the doctor detected a few years ago and I believe it's still there but doesn't really effect me. You bleed for the first few months but once you have it for awhile it's almost like you forgot you even have it. Mirena is not for everyone but iv had it got 3 years and I haven't gotten pregnant and plan on keeping it for the whole 5 years and might just get it placed back in after my 5 years. I love the idea of not having to take a pill everyday! Iv been on birth control since I was 14 and this is the best option for me

I had mine for over a year, had the contraction like pains every few days. It would put me in the fetal position for hours. When I brought it up to my doctor she said she'd never had a single complaint about that. I don't believe that for a second.

As a Mirena user, I would encourage you to wait awhile to see if it improves. Mine hurt a lot at first, then not at all. My periods also stopped. It turned out to be the best birth control I ever used.
