I'm certain it's not me who needs deprogramming. Please take your crazy elsewhere as this is not helpful to the OP or anyone else. In fact there's no need for you to be on an anonymous forum at all as you don't seem to understand why people come here.

I fully support people setting boundaries and having support from qualified, ethical professionals. Just as with anti-vaxxers and climate change deniers, we have a growing segment of the population who thinks they can make psychiatric diagnoses, and give a one size fits all method of coping with people who range from difficult to truly horrific in their behavior. And sometimes the “victimized” party is in the wrong. I’m not suggesting that people don’t suffer from narcissistic abuse.

Not everybody wants to run to a therapist at the first obstacle. We used to be able to problem-solve ourselves. You seem off the wall with your anti-vaxxers and anti-climate change drivel, get a grip. The OP asked what to do about a parent who behaves inappropriately on an anonymous forum, and people have been giving her good advice. You haven't. Looks like it's you who needs help from a professional.

Rare? lol, my family members would never get diagnosed. What’s in it for them.

Stay out of it if you don’t know what you are talking about.

Right, but you can diagnose them! What’s your credential?

DP

Two therapists over the years alerted me that my mom was likely borderline and a recent therapist said my sibling also sounded like they had a personality disorder.

A borderline will rarely to never visit a therapist because they are never wrong!

That is highly unethical and the kind of thing people are disciplined and lose licenses for. You never diagnose a patient you haven’t personally assessed. Never

You are not helping.

The delusional diagnoses aren’t helping. People need to deal with specific behavior and consider the circumstances of their relationships, not follow a map created by unqualified hacks. It’s no better than taking Ivermectin for COVID.

Normal doesn’t work if you deal with crazy. If you don’t want to get infected by crazy or suffer from ptsd stay far away.

It isn't rare

Once you have some life experience, it becomes obvious when someone's behavior is not normal, whether they're diagnosed or not. At the end of the day, we don't have time to wait and see if our parents bother to also get interested in their mental health issues and seek help with that. This time may never come. There are patterns. People with personality disorders follow certain behaviors that normal people don't. So a specific label doesn't matter, one needs to know what to do about it. If it helps OP to label it narcissistic, so be it. Better be overprepared than underprepared. Perhaps people like you don't like it, as you're put off that you've been found out.
