Then you have countries like Slovenia, which really didn’t exist 1918. Before that, there was no sense of being a Slovene.
Bottom line is, it’s complicated and the story really depends on which European country you’re talking about.

How are Britons, Germans, Swedes, French, etc. not Indigenous to Europe? If not, where did they originally come from? I mean technically we all came out of Africa and migrated elsewhere, but I just don't understand how the Sami could be considered the only Indigenous group to Europe.
