+1 somehow republicans have conflated basic gun safety measures with the culture woad and our kids are paying the price with daily school shootings.

Responsible ownership of a hand gun by someone who hasn’t been convicted of a crime or been adjudicated as mentally unstable vs collecting semi automatic weapons you leave unsecured around kids and have your kids pose with for the Christmas card photo are very different things. Heck, some of the school shooters are minors with known mental health issues using semi automatic weapons * that their parents bought for them*. Not the same as a public figure getting threats having a licensed handgun (it would have to be in VA) because she has a legit need for personal protection.

As DA of SF and AG if CA, she would have clearly gotten credible threats and had only sporadic protection from state and local LEOs. Look at what happened to Paul Pelosi. His wife is the next person in line for the presidency after the VP and I’m sure she gets an enormous number of threats. But, her house and spouse were completely unprotected. TBH, Paul Pelosi needed a handgun.

I don’t want a handgun in my house. The alarm system and the loud, seemingly protective dog (bark much worse then bite, but likely would protect me if I seemed threatened) are fine in my safe suburban neighborhood. And I’m a novice without any interest in gun training. Statistically, I’m more likely to have the gun used against me than use the gun. But if I had here past jobs and got credible threats, I’d get a handgun and get decent training.

MAJOR REFORM are never going to happen, we might get AR banned but that is all. Most of us don't want major gun reform. We don't need people to stay home anymore.

That comes from something she said in 2019--oddly, the version I saw cuts off what she actually said and just says executive order in the first 100 days, but it is from back then.

The claim stems from a CNN town hall event in April 2019, when Harris was contending for the Democratic presidential nomination. At that event, Harris was asked about mass shootings and how she would keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them.

“Upon being elected, I will give the United States Congress 100 days to get their act together and have the Courage to pass reasonable gun safety laws,” Harris responded, according to a transcript of the event. “And if they fail to do it, then I will take executive action.”

Harris clarified in her response that if people “want to go hunting, that’s fine” but that she would advocate for new gun safety laws including requiring universal background checks and a renewal of the assault weapons ban.

+1 It's only in the last two decades that Republicans lost their mind and started opposing everything related to gun control, even background checks, red flag laws and safe gun storage requirements.
