It's exhausting and a total waste of time interacting with a person like this which is why people then put boundaries on interacting with them. Your best option is to either ignore OR don't be on a group text with her and don't invite her to important events. When you let people like this into your life they do crap like this and there isn't a lot of recourse that is satisfying in the end.
That's why I would respond on the group thread with "This picture is from my Grandma's funeral, correct?" [highlighting her photo and capture I'm responding to]. She can't act like a victim as I haven't said anything nasty nor blamed her, but point has been made.

The “glad I’m not dead like your grandma” part
I mean we are glad she isn't dead right?
Is grandma 60 or something? When people die late 80's and 90's it's really a different tone, like are we really all morose at that age?
Stop trying to make crass comments like this OK. If you think this is fine, you are the problem. Most of us have EQ and are expected to use it.
Stop acting like a 90 year old dying is some solemn event.
In case folks were curious what a sociopath looks like

Did anyone respond?
OP here. No one responded. I know OPs brothers and spouses feel similar about MIL, so I think their approach when she does something like this is to ignore her.
This is what my husband does too and it drives me insane.
