The last time I checked, you don't need to be on Capital to get good grades, attend showcases, and go to prospect camps.

I don't really understand the commentary directed at the 2028 Capital Blue team. It seems like a fairly normal Capital team to me. It is true that at the 2028 level a good number of talented girls left for Hero's Green and M&D Black before the start of 7th and 8th grades. The girls that remained played for Pride, Stars, NL, etc. through middle school. Pride Red finished their 8th grade summer ranked #7 and then the majority of those players went to Capital and were joined by good players from Starts, NL, etc. I think they will likely struggle to find their footing like any new team does, but over time I don't see how they could be that much worse than the Pride 8th grade team.
‘28 Capital Blue will be a top 10 team by next summer and their girls will have very similar recruiting success as the ‘26s.
Do any players move down from Blue to Orange and vice versa?

The top showcases are by invitation or application only. Who your coaches are and which club you play for weighs heavily in whether you will be selected or not. There are plenty of posts re: which are the top showcases so I will not rehash that here. The other showcases are basically garbage and a money grab. Additionally, it you play for a top club (Capital, M&D Black, Hero’s) you draw the most attention from colleges. Just go watch the sidelines of the ‘27s this year and ‘28s next year for those clubs. I am sure M&D DC will get some attention as well, I just don’t think that a nascent program that is not in the top 10 is the basket to put all of your eggs in. It is a leap of faith at best.
You bring up a good point about the coaches and club influencing invite only showcases. But the girls getting recruited to the top programs, they are getting recruited to those programs regardless of which club they play for.
When people say you need to play for this club, that club, to get recruited. That is for the borderline player where recruiting connections are key. If a girl is good enough to play for BC, UNC, or NW, they are getting recruited to those schools even if they play for a mid-level club.

Anonymous wrote:They should be worried. M&D DC 29 is going to be spectacular. They will be a too 10 team come high school as long as they can keep the talent they acquired. This might be a sticky year getting to know one another but soon enough they’ll gel beautifully.

This reads like a troll post. Any new Capital team takes some time to gel. Top 10 in their final year seems reasonable, but not by next summer. 2026s are putting together a special recruiting class, so that could be out of reach, but the 2028s will probably have a normal/average recruiting class when the time comes.
Anonymous wrote:Lol. Ok. You convinced me to say it. They have the best recruiting director in the area. And it's been just 3 months and a lot has changed. And Cap certainly looks like they've taken notice by all indications here. Just as for them their year prior now has a skeleton crew. Good luck to Cap.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Pretty funny. 7 of the top Pride players (on a pretty good squad) just moved over in 7th grade. That always happens with Cap's main feeder. It will be one day, but not by M&D DC. They have a decent team that cannot compete with MD teams at ‘29 and nothing really after that except B teams.
You think a few Pride kids are going to help them against M&D, Coppermine and Hero’s?
They are trying very hard to sell the dream, but few seem to be buying it. And I am sure the Capital 2026 recruiting results so far are not helping the situation.
M&D DC might well field some good middle school teams, but I think few are buying that “M&D DC will be on par with Capital in a few years”, which is what the original post said. The stakes are likely too high in school for top players to roll the dice on a far less certain outcome than Capital or top MD teams. Lose a few top players and it will all come crashing down, which everyone knows and probably makes the prophecy self fulfilling.
People are going to be pretty surprised it seems with 28 Cap Blue and 29 M&D DC fall ball.
FTR, I think the battleground is BLC's top players and where you should direct your energies. They're next door to M&D DC, after all. But knock yourself out.
So in 3 months they've pulled 7 top players from a very unusual place and a top 2 (to not upset the Cap community) recruiting director in the area. That happens to have a top 2 h.s. team, right there. Not in Alexandria. Hmmm...
Well congratulations on now being on a different feeder team. That is all that happened here. "Trust us, our recruiting will be great" is not going to convince anyone who raised a kid smart enough to be admitted to an Ivy league school.

1) Go to Capital, which has a proven track record and a recruiting program second to none in the area.
2) Stay at M&D DC and hope they can create a program and culture comparable to Capital.
If the choice is #2, then I would love to know why. There's obviously much more risk in this scenario. What is the upside?
My opinion is the Capital process is viewed as being scary, and some, probably those on the bubble or below, prefer the idea of just riding the wave rather than having to find a new home without their friends.
Clearly, the success of this endeavor will be determined by the few elite-ish players on the team. Just hope they don't have other plans, I guess.
It's more like Cap knows they may be looking at a 2 year stretch of not getting their gals late. Which is an existensial threat to their business model. So I guess we'll keep seeing you on the M&D DC threads.
