What exactly do you think this has to do with it?

It would be culturally insensitive to pick a side.

There is no doubt which “side” was in the wrong on 9/11.

Are you white?

We actually never got that far in history class, although the teachers originally hoped we would.

I wonder if today’s history classes get as far to 9/11.

My middle school held a moment of silence held a moment of silence and then played this video focusing on Islamophobia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ0gXIpuwLg

My students were very confused, as they have very little knowledge about 9/11 as 6th graders. The message about Islamophobia is important, but I don't think they made the connection. I understand WHY we did this for my own sense of dealing with the lived trauma, but there was no meaning or context for this age group yet.

There are so many things wrong with MCPS. The system fails to take advantage of all the Smithsonian museums and opportunities to learn in DC. It is such a close by resource and they don’t take advantage of it at all except for taking one field trip in first grade to the Smithsonian natural history, museum. Disappointing.

A) Plenty of schools take trips to the Smithsonian museums.
B) Field trips require lots of paperwork and chaperones
C) Buses aren’t free

Who were we occupying against their will and forcing into poverty?

My nephew teaches American history in middle school and showed short documentary about the boat lift from Manhattan. I thought that was a great, age appropriate perspective for the kids.

In my AP Govt class, we talked about the debate, not 9/11, yesterday.

I’m the PP and just want to make it clear that I know that 9/11 occurred in the 21st century. The AP World History curriculum unit is called the 20th century but includes info that happened in the 21st century.
