When my kids started at Pyle there were 4 advanced math groups for 6th graders and 1 class of on-track math, which effectively became considered "remedial" though of course, it was anything but that.
Tons of kids drop down either during MS or during the first year or so of HS because the push to put the majority into advanced math was so fierce from 4th grade onwards.
It was driven obviously, by striver parents but then the schools themselves took up the mantle of pushy parent. I actually said to my kid's teacher in 4th that I didn't think compacted math was for them. I was told in no uncertain terms, that it was almost for everyone, and if it went to fast for them, to get a tutor like nearly EVERY other kid in the class.
My kid is in 12th grade now and has a math tutor to help with homework (because I'm useless). But he has always had a math tutor, since that 4th grade teacher said this.
