They all wear trashy little slip dresses. Why would it cost more than $60 to look like a street walker?

$139 doesn't seem that terrible to me. I am sure you could look for something on sale at a different time of year next year, and hold it for the event. I would also try buy nothing, I have seen some nice dresses offered up in my local group - for free!

I always forget how much that costs. Glad I can do it myself.

Got one at Macy’s on sale for less than $100.

Macys often has dresses on sale for well under $100 in late September/early October.

139 ish is not hundreds of dollars.

I was with you on the title- I’m not spending $300/400 on a homecoming dress.

But is it around $150, for a freshman who is new to it all & excited, I would be ok with that.

I did spend that at Macy’s bc she loved it - and was so slim as a 9th grader we struggled with fit. It was a waste though. She went with cheap slutty Windsor dress for $60 last year.

But the dress she got is a classic and well made and could be worn to a formal event like a wedding or similar with a formal dress requirement, so maybe one day it’ll come in handy.

Last year, daughter bought HoCo dress at Winston at Tysons mall. Maybe $45-50? It was cute, mini and adequate quality. HoCo was rescheduled from Sept to Dec - so wore the mini dress with boots. HoCo definitely more casual than prom at this HS.

This is what we do for HOCO.

My daughter is a senior. Her most expensive homecoming dress was $40. It’s not like prom at our HS - MCPS. She’s gotten her dresses on SHEIN, Temu and at a shop at the beach. We haven’t started talking about it yet this year, but I’m not spending anywhere close to $130. I actually expect she’ll recycle one that she’s already worn.

Go to Macy's and try them on -- then find the exact same dress on eBay for about $20, sometimes with tags. Easy peasy -- my daughter and her friends did this in high school a few times. The fast fashion dresses are maybe $50-80 new, far less on eBay or wherever. They also traded dresses since they all wore roughly the same size.

Go to Windsor. About $60-75. Or go to a thrift store. It’s just for pictures. No one really cares about the dress after homecoming.

Such a waste of money. Then, there is dinner and flowers and limo. It adds up real fast.
