This is what I do too. I'm white/I've had people loiter/follow along with me but I am not really looking at them to notice if they are just slow-poking through the $1 section too or actually noticing if I try to steal $1 items. My husband is a POC so doesn't love my reusable bags but if he's with me he just stays far enough away and rolls his eyes.
Sometimes I slow-wander in the most bizarre way when I am killing time... like I went to a Homegoods recently with a full hour to kill and I walked down some aisles 2-3 times as I was getting the vibe for any big items to place on the bottom first, then circle back to smaller/breakables. I am always working/don't get out alone a lot so I tend to lord over my time when I am mall-walking. I always wonder WTF these jobless freaks are out wandering/shopping during the day, so when I can act like one it's a luxury.
I actually agree with a PP who explained how lazy/incompetent the security staff are- that they probably follow lame/boring looking shopper just so they can look like they are working but won't be in any danger of having to engage.
