I think the guy (my ex) is actually a catch. In about three years, he doesn’t need to spend a lot of time with our teens. I don’t think it is a crazy idea.

Women do most of the work in the early years anyway. And 50s is when the man’s business takes off and rakes in the revenue. Just saying that is what happens.

I don’t think I would care that much, as long as he is kept busy and keeps the checks coming.

Any man twice divorced would be an idiot to not get a vasectomy. Clearly marriage doesn’t work for him and having an oooops baby outside of marriage in your 40s is literally the worst thing a guy can do to screw up a good life. If you already share a kid with your exDH then it sorta makes sense to tell you so you don’t need to worry about your kid having new half-siblings in the future.


His last ex was “just a girlfriend” I was the original spouse, LT spouse, two great kids. But yeah.

I think it’s great they are being honest about this with potential partners and willing to take on the procedure themselves instead of placing all the burden on the woman to prevent pregnancy. I also think not having kids is becoming more socially acceptable and so they feel more confident doing it younger vs. constantly being told they’ll change their mind.

A friend of mine had one at 30. He tried to get one in his early 20s but the doctors he went to wouldn’t do them until he’d given it some years of thought. The earliest one would agree to was age 30. Wild to me since you hear this stuff about women seeking permanent birth control and also vasectomy is reversible.

+1. I got my gf in college pregnant and she initially wanted to abort using plan B but then changed her mind. When she described to me the mental anguish she had to go through it really changed my mind regarding pregnancy. I thought it was just popping a pill like Tylenol and call.it the day but for a lot of women they have to go through serious mental issues. Honestly if men know this fact they will be more sympathetic and do their part such as getting a vasectomy and/or accepting that they have no say in a pregnancy. So guys get your vasectomy ONLY if you do not want a child. If you want a child don't do it

He most likely meant to prevent pregnancy. In fairness most men are clueless about women's biology.

Hah, when I got my vasectomy I was in the prep area with 5 other men, all with grey hair and at least 10 years older than me. I asked my doc if they were all in for vasectomies. Turns out I was the only one in for that, and the rest were in for vasectomy reversals. I asked him why those are so popular. His answer: "Second marriage"
