With most types of injuries, they still come back and play. And if you have a younger (summer birthday) student, what is the rush to graduate at 17 if they fortunately don't have to work immediately after graduation for financial reasons? They would continue to advance in subjects as they can, taking college level math and language their senior year... Don't think it's any worse to do 5 years of high school vs repeating 8th grade as long as graduating at age 18 and doing well in classes.

Are you serious? Or do you only have girls? Its so common in boys basketball that there are special 8th grade basketball redshirt schools (Gillion, Bethel, online schools). Basketball is a sport where every year makes a huge difference for boys.

Aren't colleges going to wonder why your baby boy was in high school for five years? It seems like that would be a huge red flag.

Agreed, no embarrassment because would be done to advance sport (openly). He's a summer birthday so already much younger than many of his athlete peers in his grade. More difficult since we didn't do it before high school but think still doable. Also would still advance in Math and language so in class with many of his friends from former grade.

Yep, very common and the kids are not at all embarrassed.

How much would this cost? Is there much of a commute involved? I’m just wondering if it’s worth the costs for a year.

This isn’t as good a plan for athletes as they only get four years high school eligibility.

Well they would likely be age appropriate for the private school grade. I have a child w/ a sept bday. Our public cutoff is 9/30 and the private we switched to is 9/1, so kids with birthdays even near the cutoff generally repeat the grade if switching

You probably could, but once they start 9th grade the clock starts on their 4 years of sports eligibility, and there is no flexibility there.
