Whitman doesn’t do a dance either.
But homecoming is a big deal for most students. My DD went to the game and the POCO festival- games, free food music ( u can dance if u want to but no one does).
Then today, my DD and her big group of friends got all dressed up, went out to dinner and then to DC to take pics at the various monuments.
Whitman also has prep rallies and FOMS ( male version of cheerleading) all leading up to HOCO.

Thanks for volunteering to get one started by assisting your kid who can work with the Student Association if they are already not in the Association to have a dance this year. Or are parents going to oppose a dance!!?

My friends kid (white) goes to Wootton, she told me that since most of the school population is Chinese, and their “parents won’t allow them go to dances or do anything fun (they have to be studying all the time apparently)”, the attendance for past hoco dances were ridiculously low and the school was not making any money and it wasn’t worth the effort/cost. So they decided to all together cancel the dance.

Exactly, there's a difference between the W school in Bethesda and in Potomac.
Wootton and Churchill hold more Asian students than WJ or Whitman.

When schools moved to hire much cheaper DJ’s instead of live bands in the 00s, that’s when the interest level began to wane. Now there are no local bands left that market themselves for high school dances. It’s different in California, especially in Southern Calif, but in this area, dances have hit rock bottom.

I could recall that my kid who graduated from Wootton had a homecoming dance during his senior year, which I’m shocked after what you just said. Is it the PTSA or SGA that’s causing the issue about not having any homecoming dances and potentially no prom?
