A lot of murders happen because of jackets.
Used Barbour is not an in-demand item in the ES set, unless OP's kid being targeted by a roving band of outdoorsy WASPs, but I appreciate your poor attempt at a flame war.

You have no idea. This stuff happens often and you're crazy if you think murders only happen for expensive items. . A person was mudered in Fort Washington in 2005 over a $350 North Face jacket.

I'm well aware of how it works. However, used Barbour is not a target. It is not a popular item in the same why that North Face, Nike, Helly Hansen, etc. are. Barbour is not recognizable to a vast majority of people.

If money is really his concern, try to sell it with him on poshmark or ebay and you'll see nobody wants it or pays much for it. His best bet is wear it and pass it along or pass it along.
I don't know where you all live, but kids really don't care about clothes.
I also don't know what Barbour is, but sounded French and therefore somewhat expensive. I know the Scandinavian brands better, but no need to wear those in our climate.

Otoh if you get held up for a Barbour jacket it will be by someone holding a blunderbuss and you can just run away while they’re loading it with one of those long sticks.
