Teaching is a job where there's a fair amount of substance abuse, so plenty of teachers have DUIs. We can either hire teachers with DUIs or have an even worse teacher shortage, and I choose the former.

If they have the 360/continuous background checks done now, then anything new that pops up on their record should be sent to active employers. But I do not know how they process checks.
Even if you want to hand wave the 2010 DUI, it’s hard to justify MCPS hiring someone for driving while under the influence of “a controlled dangerous substance” two years before she was hired. Especially since schools are legally mandated to be drug-free zones.
Interesting. So would you suggest that anyone that has used illegal drugs should be prohibited from teaching?
Ever used drugs? Depends on the drug and how long ago it was. Two years before they’re hired? Absolutely should disqualify them from being hired as a teacher.
Oh honey... clutch those pearls a little tighter before you start asking too many questions.
Please quit MCPS if you work for our school system with this attitude. Our children are not safe with you.
I would say they'd be at bigger risk with someone as incredibly out-of-touch as you.
Not being in favor of drug using teachers being in charge of educating our children makes me “out of touch”? Then I’ll gladly wear that label.
You, on the other hand, lack a moral compass and sense of right and wrong. You should not be allowed near children.

Well! A more direct connection to MCPS than via her father.

?? For all we know it could have been weed- which I believe is still considered a controlled substance. Not excusing this behavior, but no knows what she was taking and why that charge was the final one except those involved in the case. So as the employer, they aren’t allowed (supposed) to assume.
She’s a fentanyl trafficker and has been doing so four years according to reports. I’m going to guess it was more than weed. Just saying. Look at the evidence that has been presented thus far and think critically.

What do you think that would accomplish? Do you think teachers are being arrested with the school never finding out?
