These suggestions aren’t much more enlightened or less basic than fruit with dip.

meatballs. buy them frozen & toss them in an air fryer, or cook them in some kind of sauce. You can do grape jelly & chili sauce, tomato sauce, swedish style. All super easy & impossible to mess up. Especially if it's an apps for dinner party, people will appreciate a more substantial option. Wegmans has good frozen meatballs.

It could be served as an app, meatless with marinated artichokes, chickpeas, roasted peppers, cooked cubed red potatoes, black olives
