Well, I think schools that are trying to bring up enrollment might continue. Even though it wouldn't be counted for this year, might be worth it if the kid is still there next year.

October 7, I believe. It's in the OSSE child count manual somewhere.

My numbers are completely stalled out, I guess we're staying put.

And kid loves his new teacher at current school. Sigh. We'll probably wind up staying even if we get an offer because I don't have the stomach for moving. I understand the arguments in favor but it's so hard to do with a an older kid -- I feel like he'll hate me.

Make the decision confidently and let him have his feelings about it. Support him through the feelings. He will not LIKE it but he won’t HATE you (even if he says so - kids typically don’t mean it the same way we would as an adult). You’re the parent, if moving now secures something stable for the long term according to how you think it’s best for him, do it.

Sometimes, but many parents don't complete the withdrawal process properly so they have to remain on the rosters. I work at a charter school and we have to withdraw dozens of students at the 11-day mark. Sometimes we have no idea whether they left the state or are still considering a DCPS or other charter school, etc. We also have students who travel out of town for the first week or more and come back the last possible day before they lose their spot.
