No. Most THIRD graders are 9. Starting Oct 1 of 3rd grade is when (around here) they all start to turn 9. Only the absolute youngest kids will turn 9 in Sept of 4th grade.


Every single 4th grader who was not redshirted starts 4th grade at 9. Most 4th graders spend the first half to 3/4 of the school year at age 9. A few will have fall birthdays, but no more than 1/4 of the class.

8:00 doesn't seem early to me. Up until this year (my kids are 8 and 11), my kids were required to be upstairs by 8:00, in their beds by 8:30. DH and I both work full time out of the home. This is not a stay at home vs working parents thing.


No. It’s a “parents who have an orderly evening routine and parents who don’t” thing.

At this time of year, yes, almost all 4th graders are 9. Throughout the fall most 4th graders will still be 9. It's not until spring of 4th grade that most 4th graders are 10, and there are still spring/summer birthday kids who are 9 through most or all of 4th grade.

I bet a lot of them work from home so they prep dinner during the workday.


How long does "prepping dinner" take? What kind of elaborate meals are you making? We usually have dinner at 6:00 or 6:30 - regardless of whether it's a work from home or a work from the office day when I get home at 5:30.
