We are using a tournament for some games. There is no money grab. It's a good opportunity if you're not one of the top teams.
I think you misunderstood what I was highlighting.
ECNL has created a tournament type event and provided an incentive for teams to participate.
This takes away from local clubs ability to host (and make money from) a tournament.
If you like ECNL I'm sure this sounds great. Personally I'd rather see local clubs run tournaments so they get the $$$ to invest into local player development.
I think you don’t get the concept. The games for this event are worked in during the season. Not taking away from anyone to host a tournament. It games that take place over 3-4 days but they are spread out over the season.
Every game outside of league takes away from local clubs ability to run independent tournaments.
Maybe instead of forking over $$$ to ECNL you can shovel it.
I'll tell you a secret. The team that earns their way into playoffs will lose in in the first round but at least it will be expensive.
Who wants to host that would atract ecnl teams that is not? No one. ecnl teams are not going to play in a local tournament set up by anyone other than the other ecnl clubs. There is also no new money being paid for the MA cup.
And who cares is the team loses in the first round? The purpose is exposure in front of college coaches not winning the thing. College coaches could care less who wins and losses an ecnl game -- they are looking at specific players and how they play not hoe the team plays. That team that losses inthe first round gets two other games. That is three games in front of college coaches who go even to those games if they have players they are looking at.
You don't know what you're talking about. In playoffs there's 50+ recruiters per game watching the top teams play.
The barely made it teams might pull in 5-10 recruiters per game.
As much as you're trying to push the ECNL party line it's just not true. Recruiters and coaches know which teams win and they prioritize players accordingly.
That is not at all the way it works. The 11th girl on a top team is hardly ever better than the 1 on a bad team. During the recruiting years we never had a game at a showcase (except the last day when almost all the coaches go home) where there was not around 100 coaches. As stated above we have had way more. Same at playoffs. Showcase B teams have 80 plus at playoffs. During the recruiting years we never had games with 5-10. We are a mid team.
Those days are over.
With 28 max player rosters it's going to be quality over quantity.
Good luck competing with portal players.
28 max will change nothing except in the margins. You see that playing out now with the 2026 recruiting. It was always quality over quantity. Portal has been an issue for a couple of years with limited impact. For most programs there is no change. People have a view in general that big changes mean big changes. Most times big changes mean no change or quite limited change.
For all of the people worried about rostor size, college coaches are not among them. Between injuries, the portal, and girls just quiting playing coaches know that they will have open slots.
You missed the point.
Teams with over 28 players will need to get down to 28. This means there's going to be much more transfer portal players for a couple of years.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:What happens if the tournament winner is in the top 3? Only 3 go? Down from 5 last year? That seems like a drastic cut.
4 playoff spots - one of them is guaranteed through the in-season tournament. MA went from 5 playoff spots to 4 playoff spots, not that drastic.
If the tournament winner is 1st, then 2nd, 3rd and 4th go to playoffs. If the tournament winner finishes 8th, then 1st, 2nd and 3rd plus 8th go to playoffs.

However after evaluating the recent champions league outcomes, ECNL decided to no longer support the expansion of this pool.
The 5th spot was taken away in the spring as a result of the bay/fxb merger. 5 champions league spots for 12 clubs does not happen. Decision was made well in advance of virginia Union 2010 losing 0-10.
Might want to check with your director bud
Your director said MA was losing a champions league slot due to conference performance, bud?
That isn’t what was said. It was said ecnl was going to expand to 60 something teams for champions league. After Seattle, there was too much disparity goal differential wise, so ecnl retracted that and went back down to 48 towards the end of July.
