yeah Michigan is really a hidden gem.
Michigan is likely to end single family zoning in the near future. Would not recommend because SFH neighborhoods in your price range will be very vulnerable to decline from this policy.

NJ has crazy property taxes. My sister lives there. Her house is worth like $600K, but her property tax is higher than mine, worth $850k.
