They brand everyone an extreme leftist.

Right?! Why didn’t she pick Shapiro and try to make a battle for PA? Did Shapiro not want it? Did the opposition research find stuff on him or Kelly? This is “meh” for me but maybe he’ll surprise us?

If she’s going to get PA, it will be on her own, she doesn’t need the state’s gov to carry the state. I like Shapiro a lot but his previous statements are a distraction in this current political environment. People have short memories though and who knows what the landscape will look like in ~10 years, when he’ll be 61 - a very normal age to run for pres. Plus I think he needs to stay as Gov longer - he’s only in his first term.

I agree with this. Not his moment and he has plenty of time.

Not even slightly.

FWIW I still don’t think this ticket will win with Harris at the top (mostly because of America more than Harris), but of the names floated, Walz is my personal “would have a beer with him” choice, and having him on the campaign trail and in the soundbites will make the next 90 days more tolerable at least.

We’ll see if he helps her at the polls in November I guess.

The Mark Kelly poster from the other thread owes me 50 bucks! Fortunately I also bet no on Shapiro.

Very happy with this pick, seems like a lovely guy ordinary Americans will listen to and respect.

Republicans have tried to brand EVERY Democrat as an extreme leftist. That's nothing new. He's done nothing of the sort representing Minnesota in Congress or as Governor.

If I was dithering on a harris/shapiro ticket, this is definitely a doubling down on the leftist drift of the party. No stopping it now.

Reports last week said he spent lots of time in/with Illinois and Michigan.

I am voting for Kamala but let's be frank. A two-women ticket would be hard to win. He was born in 1964, same age as Kamala. That is not terribly old. At the very least, two 60 year olds is better than a geriatric.

Except his policies have been both wildly popular and effective. The school breakfasts and lunches have made the Minnesota academic performaces near the top of the country.

Ha! I thought of this too a minute ago. That said, Walz has more charisma.

Tim Kaine was a great pick. It was the top of the ticket that was a problem and the hubris of a poorly run campaign combined with complacency, 8 years of a Democratic administration and something completely different with Trump as the "change candidate". Harris is the "change candidate" this time and exciting at the top of the ticket without the Clinton baggage. Trump is running his third consecutive Presidential campaign. It's old and tired.

Uh, he appeals to rural voters, Midwesterners, and Moderates. He will definitely not turn folks off from all the Israel/Hamas/Iran stuff going on the way Shapiro would. He doesn't come with any of that baggage and can play the role of happy warrior.

He’s super liberal now and he doesn’t appeal to midwestern swing voters. He appeals to midwesterners already voting for her. He gets her nothing.

He appeals to white suburban voters nationwide.

That helps solidify the upper midwest. He won't "piss" anyone off and he is clever and well spoken.
