Suburbs are designed to focus on providing family sized housing with outdoor space, school access, feeling of safety, convenient access to basic shopping and dining needs and other necessities of life, some paths for people to walk around, so that they don't feel entirely cooped up and that's about it? If this is all you need to be happy and you do not desire any sort of other complexity then nothing is wrong here.

The problem is not presence of these amenities parents seek, but the absence of pretty much anything else.

I don't live in Vienna and have no intention of ever doing so. Not my cup of tea.

That said, I don't get the hate. It has highly ranked schools, new homes, and seems fairly family friendly. Lots of kids, sports, walking trails, and shops nearby. I understand why people move there.

Isn't Vienna part of Fairfax County? Why is their taxes be any higher?


We pay extra taxes to the town within TOV. Worth every cent based on snow removal and leaf collection alone. Pays for our trash--and they take almost everything, which is great! Also gives you discounted rates for community center camps/lessons, which we used heavily when my kids were young.


It also has its own police department and as such, there is basically no crime (response time for police is 1-2 minutes in an emergency)
