Trump didn't say Nikki Haley had African heritage. He said he thought "she" had always been Indian. That's why I think he's confusing her with Nikki Haley. Trump is constantly confusing Nikki Haley with other people.

The NABJ invite the leading candidates during the election year every presidential cycle. With that said, the NABJ should have foregone history and lost Trump's invitation this year.

I don't think it's working because the interviewer isn't there to clean up his messes for him. Like, most Americans know that people died at the insurrection, since Fox News tried to pin those deaths on Biden. Without a sympathetic interviewer to gently remind/correct/hand him the talking points, he just sounds crazy.
The audience isn’t having it which I think threw him off a bit.

She is half black Jamaican (her father) and half Indian (her mom). She has never not been black.
She is the first Indian-American to become a Senator, and first Indian-American woman to become a Senator.
She is NOT the first black person to become a Senator, that was Hiram Rhodes Revels, 1870.
She is NOT the first black woman to become a Senator, that was Carol Mosely Braun, 1993.

I don't think it's working because the interviewer isn't there to clean up his messes for him. Where's the lie? She was the first Indian American to become a Senator. By agreeing to the truth, that does not mean she denied the other half of her heritage. Or are you forgetting that Harris attended an HBCU and pledged, when they were still pledging plebes, a predominantly Black sorority. You know its the little things that count.
