I think people with kids who can't be left alone in the house should run plans by their spouse before committing to them.

Hell, my kids are grown and my husband and I still do that. You never know if someone might have something else in mind for that day, etc.

I think since your kids are older & do not need childcare then he is free to make his own individual plans separate from the family.

It isn’t fair, but a lot of men see their priorities as work>personal needs>family and they’ve been socialized to be confident about asserting those priorities. Women mostly aren’t willing to put their kids last, so they always get the short end of the stick if they’re prioritizing kids>family>work>personal needs.

Yeah cuz both parent adults putting the kids last works so well.

My DH pulls stuff like this all the time. I’ll ask him to take a day off when the kids are home or have a special activity so he can watch it. Instead, even with both days being equally feasible as a choice, he’ll take off a random day when they’re at school or camp all day. And then he’ll spend it doing something for himself. And I’ll spend my next day off running the kids around while also doing tons of catch-up chores.
