I actually think the heathered tweed version from Tuckernuck is much better than the solid one. It looks more like a Chanel reference and a bit more sophisticated in a tweed plaid -- the heathered blue tweed or the "Seaglass" plaid tweed are both cute. The pattern and texture make the buttons and braiding feel more organic and less tacked on to me. With a bit of tailoring and a delicate low heel to offer some height (nothing heavy) I think it can be a cute look.
That photo at the top of the Washington Post article of the woman at the GOP convention in the red version wearing white sneakers is so hideous though and that's how it's being worn a lot -- in a bright color without and tailoring with flats. It's not flattering and instantly makes you look shorter and wider than you are. It's just a hard no.
