Their customer base tends to evangelize, but it seems like the machines are both so-so at cleaning, and very rough on clothing.

I was one too, but when it came time to buy a second (new house, failure wasn't SQ) I decided we'd fallen for hype. They are only sold at mom & pop stores, and the salesforce recognizes the demographic that embraces SQ--older, tech-adverse. I also spoke with the repair guy. He did like SQ, but said the reliability is only average, and cost of parts is a little high. Said LG has the best price on parts, didn't like them as much but all around more affordable to run and maintain. Really liked Electrolux, said they are reliable, but extremely expensive to repair. We've had an LG front loader for a year now, it's been fine.

I have hated every single front loaded I’ve had. They don’t clean well at all.

A Speed Queen washer is 3.2 cu ft. On what planet is that “HUGE”?

Our Speed Queen is big. I have had mine about 10 years now with no issues. The person who installed ours says he rarely gets called out for Speed Queen repairs and that they are known for lasting 20 years or so.

We just got one about 2 weeks ago and man that drum is HUGE. And it says in the manual “feel free to fill it to the top.” You can fit a ton in that sucker.
And comparing it to my old whirlpool front loader, it’s like 10,000 times better. No matter how much we tried to keep the front loader clean, it always smelled funky.

What model Speed Queen did you get? I haven't heard of a large one.
