It's laughable to anyone who bikes or walks in the city that they drive safely. I guess you get off on knowing they annoy people, which is fine. A few will turn themselves to pancakes annually and hopefully they don't hurt too many pedestrians along the way.
The point is that the moped drivers don't have the ability to obliterate an entire family as does the operator of a four ton murder machine. But continue telling yourself that they do.
Murder machines! This silly rhetoric really misleads people about what is actually happening. Lets look at some official government stats, shall we?
In 2022, there were:
-a grand total of 17 people in Washington DC who were killed by car drivers
-nearly as many deaths, 15, were blamed on bicyclist/pedestrian/scooter errors
-there were 203 homicides
Those 15 bikers/pedestrians would be alive if they make their “error” with a moped instead of a car.
Weird how even when it's not the car driver's fault, it's still the car driver's fault.
There was a recent accident in which one person on an e-bike drove into another person on an e-bike and one of them was killed. Still a car driver's fault, though, right?

Oh is that the standard you invented? Pretty dumb argument but as a factual matter, someone one on a moped could of course wipe out a family in a crosswalk. If you hit your head on the cement, all bets are off.

We’ve decided that some people in DC are required to obey laws and pay the taxes for the people we allow to break the law. That’s the deal you sign up for living here.

Agree it's good the city is "cracking down" but also -- I have not noticed any actual decline in the mopeds or their dangerous behavior so I don't have a ton of faith in the city to do anything here. Can anyone report whether they've ever seen any of the city's supposed measures in action or seen any benefits from them.
